The emotion aroused by theissue of France Inter, broadcast in November 2018, on " the excesses of the coaching, highlights the issue of the professionalization of coaches. In this fast-growing sector, the certification by the professional associations (ICF, SF Coach...), or schools is a good first step, but it is not sufficient to the training of competent professionals. They need to be open to approaches that help them better understand the contexts in which they intervene and instruct the dilemmas and tensions that arise from their practice.
A management focused on the psychological
The great market boom of the coaching is to put it next to the appetite to the reflexivity of contemporary societies. Reflexivity, it is to be able to reflect on oneself, to take oneself as an object of analysis and knowledge to improve or alter its ability to act. In the world of work, the rise of uncertainties, trials, bifurcations and retraining, active this appetite to reflexivity to (re)position themselves and act. The coaching is presented as a device of reflexivity for others, aimed to support and buttress this social demand.
For all that, and it is in this way that its expansion is paradoxical that coaching also runs the risk of participating in " the obligation of reflexivity that characterises a management centred not, as in taylorism, on the control and discipline of the body, but on the psychic. It is now a question of mobilizing subjectivities to produce an accession of individuals to the standards, and organizational values.
Therefore, three critical fuel is a recurring sociological analyses of coaching. The first focuses on the psychologisation of work reports, where difficulties and problems are read under an angle that puts focus only on the personality, at the expense of a more organizational. The second alert on theinternalization of the constraints, standards of efficiency and performance that helps coaching. The latter underlines the déconflictualisation reports of work that produce these devices, avoiding to question the managerial practices that are at the source of the problems experienced in the work.
Thus, the reflexivity of self acts as a necessary skill to build a posture coach and develop professional practice.
Reflexivity as a competence
Trades with a high component of relational (training, education, health, social work, etc) all have embedded, for the last twenty years, the reflexivity as a distinctive competence, in their repositories occupation as their training devices.
The professionals of the business relationship are always caught between a mandate that is entrusted to them by their institution (school, hospital, company, etc) and a request, which is that of the person being accompanied. This in-between inevitably causes shifts, questionings, uncertainties, that the strict application of the knowledge acquired in training may not solve. The professional competence is an ability to adjust in a situation to the vagaries, contingencies, events that occur, in short, the uncertainties of the relationship, to resolve the practical problems that arise. The jurisdiction is also found in the after-the-fact, in a retrospective analysis of the action to identify the professional knowledge implicit, tacit, hidden, that the professional has engaged in a situation.
